Avery's response these days is often "Just don't worry about it." (And yes, we continue to work on her prevelent attitude problem...wherever does she get this from?!)
I've been told that I often used this phrase, when I was her age.
Hmmmm....

Funny Kids...
Riding in the truck, on Rt. 20, which is extremely buckled right now due to the extreme weather...
"This is NOT fun!" (Avery says, as she's getting bounced around in her Daddy's truck :)
****************************************************************************************
Bryton's first report card was great! (who'd have known they get very, very detailed report cards in Kindergarten?!) So, last night when he got home from school...
"How would you like to go to Pizza Hut for supper, use your Book-It coupon, and celebrate your really good Report Card?" (Jess)
"Mom...really?! Yes!!! We celebrate everything!!!" (Bryton...along w/ a big huge hug :)
The kid has a point, we don't seem to miss celebrating milestones, big or small.

This Week's Favorite's
The Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Dubuque, IA - A great day trip, especially w/ kids our age. Turtles, catfish, stingray, snakes, spiders...all at their level, and its very "open" so they can roam freely within eyesight.
Mixed Nuts - Doesn't matter what brand they are...these are a good snack, and an excellent source of protein. I just don't let the kids eat this snack w/ me yet; its too easy for them to choke on nuts.
Cherry/Vanilla Diet Dr. Pepper - I try to stay away from drinking pop, but one can of this/day tastes pretty darned good!
Cheerio's Snack Mix - Good for packed lunches. Its really just another form of Chex Mix.
It's A Ten - A very good, deep conditioning hair mask.
DeVoe Floral, Lena, IL - Not only is this my source for ordering flowers and balloons...but they also have a nice, small, inexpensive assortment of gifts, cards, and candles, now that they are under new ownership.

My Little Money Grabber
"Avery, where did you get that?" (Jess, after she see's Avery w/ a $20 bill in her hand)
"Mommy, I found a million dollars! See?!" (Avery)
"Avery, that is Mommy's. Did you find that in Mommy's purse?"
"Yes...But, I love money, Mommy! I NEEEEED a million dollars!"
(Oh, so true...don't we all?!!! And yes, that is her ever-present, after-we-get-home-from-the-babysitter cheerleading costume she has on.)

Playing House
Avery loves to "play" house. Actually, Bryton is into it a little bit, too. Who do they love to play this with most these days?! Their good neighbor-friend, Kati. Its very cute to watch them play, especially since Kati is a Sophomore in High School :) She goes right along w/ the plot, like such a good sport!
Another benefit of having such great neighbor girls (one of whom just returned to college this past weekend), is they love to get all bundled up and go play outside in the snow, with Bryton and Avery! This has come in very handy, already this winter!

Where I Am
http://www.gostaffordva.com/stafford-visitorguide.cfm
So, I don't get to play tourist while I'm here, but there is lots to learn, do, see, etc. in the Stafford, VA, area.
I love all of the brick buildings. Everything looks clean, well-kept, and stately.

This Week's Favorites
UNIX Nail Salon, Freeport, IL - Avery and I had a girls day out the other day, which included a pedicure for me and painted nails for Avery. Avery picked our color out...hot pink, of course, and she LOVES her nails. The first thing she said, "I'm going to show Daddy" (he is still her prince:)
Panera Bread - This is the best place to eat, when you travel...very homey, good food...the place simply invites you to sit down and relax for awhile.
19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult - Wow, what a book so far. I just started it, and it already makes me want to keep our children in a "bubble" and bypass the teenage years.
O'Hare Int'l Airport - Had a travel day from Hell yesterday due to weather, but the airport ran seemlessly...including very nice customer service agents (and Lord knows they were stressed, from people complaining of flight delays and cancellations).
My Family - I'm away from home, without them, (add to that, the possibility of something going wrong due to inclement weather)...and I'm constantly reminded how EXTREMELY important family is to my little world. I have so much to be thankful for.

Happy 30th Birthday, Brian!
Today Brian turns the BIG 3-0! Why is it that this makes me feel much older, than when I turned 30 this past June? Must be because he still seems (and often acts) like the "fresh out of college" guy I married almost 7 yrs. ago :) You've had 30 great years, Brian...and here's to a few 30 more!

Nicknames
Isn't it funny how we choose nicknames for our children, and they stick like glue?! Here is how my conversation went w/ Avery today, in the truck:
"I missed you today, baby." (Jess)
silence....
"Huh?! No, Mommy, say 'I missed you today, Peanut." (Avery)
Guess she's right! I call Avery "Peanut." Brian calls her "Shnoob." I call Bryton "Sweetheart." Brian calls Bryton "Bubba." Anything different obviously throws them off!
And I think we've been using these nicknames since they were born :)

Happy New Year!!!
Time for New Beginnings. . . . . . . . . . . Taylor Addison, Blue Mountain Arts, 1989
"This is a time for reflection as well as celebration.
As you look back on the past year and all that has taken place in your life,
Remember each experience for the good that has come of it
and for the knowledge you have gained.
Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have reached.
Remember the love you have shared and the happiness you have brought.
Remember the laughter, the joy, the hard work, and the tears.
And as you reflect on the past year, also be thinking of the new one to come.
Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings
and the celebration of life."
